Today the Tozzi name might be better known as one of the judges on Australia’s Next Top Model. Yet Tozzi the father has a long history in the Sydney café and club scene. When Nicola Tozzi arrived in Sydney, he opened the iconic Caffe Roma which still operates today after almost 27 years. In 1992 Tozzi opened Sugareef, which pioneered a new way of Kings Cross nightlife. His latest joint Fiore Café and Bar is a welcoming wine bar offering platters of casual Italian food such as buffalo mozzarella or salumi. Wine by the glass is a casual “whatever is open”. Wine by the bottle is, as you might guess, Italian – such as Vermentino, Pinot Grigio, Lambrusco, and Rustico Chianti – with a spattering of Australian. It’s a terrific place. Drop in. Hang out. And leave the ordering to Tozzi.
His selections for us were a feast. A cocktail to start. Followed by rose and red wines. Buffalo mozzarella, salumi, frittata, crumbed mussels and whitebait. And of course there was dessert.
