Three surprises in one morning can be an exciting outcome.
1. My travelling companion for a Hunter Valley and Broke Fordwich weekend getaway googled ‘Best Breakfast Hunter Valley’. As the designated driver of that day, he was in command. I was hungry, waiting, anticipating… and we were on our way TO EAT.
2. As I walked through the café door, Chef saw me, I saw Chef, and old friend Emerson Rodriguez and I had a great big hug. Seeing him was surprise for us both!
3. Not much later I saw this message in my facebook stream. “Sitting at Emerson Rodriguez new restaurant, thought that lady looks familiar. The beans & the corn cakes were beautiful.” That lady, as you may have gathered was me. We concurred on the corn cakes. Yummy indeed. But the orders at our respective tables were slightly different. I was toying with the idea of ordering the beans. Finally I settled on French Toast. Rich, luscious, thick, vibrant and deeply satisfying. And after a 4am wakeup for ballooning, washed down with lots AND LOTS OF COFFEE…
There was one disappointment. Knowing and loving Emerson’s food, I grabbed a dinner menu on my way out.
Bet you know: the disappointment was that we only got to try his breakfast on this particular Hunter Valley adventure. The Degustation Menu (dinner $95 per person food only or $130 with matched wines) will have to unfortunately, wait for another time…
