Pineapple hits the spot on the new cocktail menu from Reece Griffiths launched this week at Low 302. As he and the team pumped ‘em out at the launch we pumped ‘em down, trying all five (along with some super scrumptious bar food). Loved ‘em all.
I’m divided if I had to nominate a favourite. Knowing my penchant for whisky, you might expect the Switchel – Ballentines 12, pomegranate molasses, pineapple shrub, ginger, apple cider – to take the prize. It was certainly enjoyed, immensely. The smoky BBQ aspects of Caribbean Calling might have pipped it at the post, though: Beefeater gin, bbq’d pineapple syrup, fino sherry, citrus, celery shrub. In both those cocktails, I’m loving not just the flexibility of his use of pineapple but also his employment of the historic shrub.
But they were all good, and all are worth slipping in to one of the favourite haunts of hospitality in Sydney, to give them a try.
