The team from two of Sydney’s renowned venues, two-hatted Bentley Restaurant and Bar, and Potts Point’s Monopole wine bar, have announced they are opening a new restaurant in Potts Point: Yellow.
Co-owners Brent Savage (head chef), Nick Hildebrandt (sommelier) and Glen Goodwin (manager & sommelier) will open the restaurant in mid September in the renowned Yellow House site.
The new restaurant is inspired by the Parisian neo-bistro movement, with a small, frequently changing set menu featuring ingredients that Brent Savage and his team have sourced that day.
“We loved the experience of opening our more casual eatery and wine bar Monopole in Potts Point last year, and we have had an amazing reception in the area. We think it’s an exciting postcode that is ready for this bistronomy concept,” says Savage. “This restaurant is something Nick and I have dreamed of creating for many years, since visiting the new style bistros of Paris. It is the perfect relaxed play of food and wine, changing daily and produce focused.”
Yellow House is one of the historic buildings of Potts Point with a colourful history; it was originally established as an artist’s collective in the early 1970s including influential artists Martin Sharp, Brett Whitely, Greg Wait and George Gittoes. An Edwardian building, the building was painted yellow as a nod to artist Vincent Van Gogh.
The Bentley team will continue their collaboration with award-winning Melbourne designer Pascale Gomes-McNabb who will design the interiors, as she has for both The Bentley and Monopole.
The Bentley, Savage and Hildebrandt’s first restaurant collaboration, has been open for seven years in Surry Hills and is moving to the CBD by the end of this year.
In their seven years, the team has collected awards including winning Wine List of the Year at the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide Awards 2012 as well as a coveted two hats for every year since opening, as well as being consistently in the Australian Gourmet Traveller Top 100, ranked as highly as 14th best restaurant in Australia.
Monopole won 2014 Wine List of the Year at the Australian Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Awards this month, and won the 2014 Belle Interior Design award for hospitality.
