Close to home, just a short ferry ride from Woolwich to Cockatoo Island: could there be a better venue for a summer pop-up bar in Sydney? So marvellous to sit outdoors, drink eat dance and be merry. This weekend as part of The Island Bar is New Orleans style Mardi Gras – Bourbon Street.

Although I arrived with just one friend in tow, there were a stack of Sydney party people that I know (and some I only met there) ready to down Makers Mark mint juleps with me, before we moved on to daiquiris and then hurricane slushies. Cool.

And I even knew the chef, Fulio Lancione (Spiedo) who amazed us with note only pizza and fried chicken but the most incredible crepes (with an totally amazeball cream cheese, banana and bacon filling.)

Yet perhaps the best thing about the weekend’s party at Bourbon Street was dancing to the old time tunes of the Blue Tongue Brass Band.

At the end of the night, some of the party-goers left the island by public ferry and some, like me, indulged in a water taxi to get us home.
