The sun broke through for the last day of the 25th anniversary in Floriade Canberra. Visitors and locals bathed in the sunshine at the spring festival in Commonwealth Park in Canberra. (Just as well I had my sunscreen – thoughtfully provided by the Crowne Plaza Canberra as part of the special Floriade package.)

Do you like spring? Outside there were magnificent display beds celebrating the season, yet my favourite was an indoor display – The Crown Jewels created by Michael Woods. It wasn’t just a stroll in the park though, as some of the eager crowd actually got their hands dirty making hanging baskets at the Lindeman’s Open Garden.

And it wasn’t all just about the garden either. We learnt what to do with our garden harvest in the hourly cooking demonstrations at the Lindeman’s Open Garden and the Bunnings Gourmet Garden.

There was other entertainment to suit all tastes and ages – with my favourite musical performance that of the Royal Military College Duntroon All Stars Big Band. I almost missed a cookery demonstration as I swung along in time with them.

After a most enjoyable Sunday it was back to a shower in my Crowne Plaza Canberra room, a drink at the hotel’s Binara One Bar, then down one floor to dinner at the Redsalt Restaurant.
