Penang Malaysia has personality. And no area moreso than the UNESCO world heritage listed area Chew Jetty in George Town. I was so taken by it that I think I delayed my travelling companions by wanting to hang out at the jetty for a little (or a lot) more than our allocated time.
Chew Jetty (or Seh Chew Keo) is the biggest of the eight clan jetties in George Town and was built close to a century ago.
The day was one of discovery and adventure with many other opportunities of serenditipity. Yet it was Chew Jetty that connected with my heart. If I have the opportunity to return to Penang I think I’d like to try the Chew Jetty homestay (contact Michael + 60 19 55 44 909 pgcjhomestay@gmail.com) and next time I’d definitely chow down on the (recommended) Hokkein noodles at the street stall near the entrance.
In any regard it’s a memory that will last a lifetime and on my recommended must visit list.

It is certainly one of the largest Chinese clan jetty, but on my last visit in August it is becoming more commercialised with small stands setup in front of the jetty houses along the main boardwalk. If this is not managed carefully, the Chew Jetty may soon loose its heritage and old world charm.

there wasn’t any stands when I visited this month so perhaps that has already been put in place. thanks for your feedback.

Fantastic series of photos of ‘how it really is’! The eye to detail is remarkable: for me it almost ‘helped’ that seasonal rains had hit . . . thank you!

Yes I agree that the rain nearly added to the appeal of the visit (and the photos.) Also made the temperature pleasant.
