NSW Orange Frost Fest – Fire and Ice combine for winter festival

The frost and cold temperatures will be welcomed and celebrated with the upcoming Orange Frost Fest, starting on the 3rd of August, and running through until the 12th.

The annual Frost Fest, which is now in its fourth year, has grown significantly to be the largest winter festival of its type in the NSW Central West. With a theme of ‘Fire & Ice’, the festival is designed to engage the community at a time when it is easy to hibernate in the warmth of home.

The festival will inject a range of activities in to the winter season, including the 2012 Frost Fest Art Competition, Exhibition and Art Trails.

The Frost Fest program comprises a huge range of events, including a performance at the Orange Regional Conservatorium, Gala Dinner at the historic Duntry League, ‘Pinot Noir and Photography’ tastings, dance and guitar workshops, basket weaving, movie nights and venison dinners.

Many of the local winemakers and farm-gates will be involved, ensuring that the region’s food and wine continues to be showcased.

The marque events for the festival include the following:

Frost Fest Rugby Art Auction

The local derby takes on a whole new look, with players from the Orange Emus Rugby Club taking on the Orange City Rugby Club in a charity fundraising venture that will see each of the players preparing a piece of art.

The players will be carefully coached by local artists prior to applying their new skill to the canvas. The theme of ‘Fire & Ice’ will need to be addressed, with the final pieces up for auction during half time at each game.

Who will release their inner artistic flair? Who will raise the most funds? The ‘piggies’ or the ‘princesses’; forwards versus backs.

Orange City – 3.15pm, Saturday 11th August 2012, Waratah Sportsground. Auction at half time

Orange’s Masterchef winner, Kate Bracks will be joining the ABC’s resident chef Lindl Taylor in one of the region’s most successful cooking schools, the Junior Cooking Masterclass.
