As the sign says: Spencer Gulf King Prawns. Wild caught. Certified Sustainable.
For nearly half a century Spencer Gulf King Prawns have been harvested from the ocean and have a reputation for being superior in quality and taste. Spencer Gulf King Prawns are sustainable, totally natural and 100% South Australian.
Along with the rest of a pretty privileged bunch – including seafood guru John Susman and Caitlin Howlett of G (Green Living) Magazine – I was flown to Adelaide this week just for lunch. But not just any lunch, the lunch was a celebration cooked by guest Chef Neil Perry on the banks of the Torrens River.

Why the celebration?
Australia’s own Spencer Gulf King Prawn fishery is the first in the Asia Pacific, and the first king prawn fishery in the world, to gain the prestigious Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for sustainability.
Why Marine Stewardship Council certification?
The Spencer Gulf and West Coast Prawn Fisherman’s Association (SGWCPFA), chose the MSC certification programme as a route to demonstrating its sustainability because the standard is demanding and the thresholds high. Spencer Gulf King Prawns successfully went through their rigorous testing and review.
