Jamie’s Italian opens in Sydney

Australia, Sydney

Jamie Oliver’s latest venture, Jamie’s Italian opens tomorrow Monday 24th October in Pitt Street. We’re told the signage is intentionally minimal. The first glimpse of the restaurant is a curved glass façade inviting passers by to peek in at the action. Inside, at the pasta preparation station punters can oversee the production of ravioli, linguini, spaghetti and the like while they wait to be seated. Do you want another peek? Above the pasta station, reclaimed timber baskets adorn the walls displaying multiple rows of artfully arranged pastas. The pasta station is linked with a casual drinking space where the impressive bar top is clad in raw folded zinc. Stunning encaustic tiles that were selected by peckvonhartel from around the world are inset into the front and sides of the bar. The array of styles, Moroccan, Spanish, Italian and Arabic, sit beautifully in the context of the raw unpolished entrance space.

Our insider tells us De Bortoli and Dal Zotto are on the drinks list. And for chowing down there’s quality produce from Thirlmere Poultry to Paesenella, Brasserie Bread to Serendipity Ice Cream. From the sea he’s chosen Joto Seafood – all seafood (such as Spencer Gulf Prawns) used in Jamie’s Italian must be sustainably sourced and traceable to point of origin.

We think we can see a queue lining up already. Hang on guys the restaurant doesn’t open until tomorrow. Jamie won’t be there but the gossip is we’ll see him sometime in 2012.
