“On one of my trips back to Spain, I spent time with a supplier, whose family have been making traditional smallgoods for almost 100 years. When I came back (to Sydney), I was consumed with trying to replicate that kind of quality and flavour using fresh Australian ingredients alongside the paprika we bring back. Each year, I travel back to Guijeulo and to Olot, in central Catalunia to learn more about my ancestral heritage. I wanted to be able to present that kind of passion and authenticity in a well rounded collection of Spanish smallgoods … and I believe I’ve done that in La Boqueria” say Emile Gomez.
La Boqueria Smallgoods is a collection of produce now available throughout Australia at various high quality delicatessans and food stores, and food service is available through Nomad Distribution.
Inside Cuisine had the pleasure of tasting the range at the launch and we recommend you chow down. Unlike the iconic La Rambla institution though, this La Boqueria has been created right here in Australia.
When we asked Emile Gormez if had a favourite, he proclaimed emotionally it had to be the butifarra blanca, lightly spiced with nutmeg, and with fruit notes, belly backfat pigshead boiled as he grew up eating butifarrqa blanca made by his grandmother with loving care. We love all thirteen products in the range including Andaluzian Morcilla, Mallorcan Sobrassada, Papada de Cerda (pork jowl), Chorizo and Longaniza (cured salami).
