There’s something to be said for a make over. It’s an opportunity to redefine, refresh and refocus who you are and what you do. Circular Quay’s Selah, a refreshingly unpretentious bistro established in 2003, has done exactly that, to chic understated effect.
Stripping back the interiors to the historic bones beneath, interior designers Christo Interiors (St Jerome’s bar and The Sanctuary restaurant in Melbourne) have created a space that embodies timeless good taste. Exposed sandstone walls, crafted copper light fixtures, salvaged hardwood features, and a work by Australian print designer Sarah Perry, combine to create a chic, relaxed space – the perfect backdrop for chef Gavin Foster’s fresh, seasonal menu.
Don’t expect dude food: there’ll be none of that, thank you. You’ll find no trickery, smoke or mirrors on offer, just simple, delicious food served in a friendly environment. It’s a pared-back, uncomplicated menu of dishes that celebrates clean flavours and tasty produce, driven by Foster and restaurant owner Sam Pask’s love of finding and celebrating small, sustainable and local producers from around Australia.
Expect dishes from blue swimmer crab tart with caramelised endive & pear, tomato salad & soft herb crème and Palmer’s Island mulloway fillet w mussel, chive & buckwheat risotto, crisp tarragon and mustard mousse, as well as the basics like fish and chips done brilliantly. Paired with an exclusively Australian and New Zealand wine list, and an even more exclusive beer list consisting of only NSW-based brews, Selah is a restaurant that walks the walk, when it comes to showcasing the best from the region.
Equally suited for business lunches, group functions and pre-theatre dining, Selah is a short walk from the CBD, Circular Quay ferries and the Sydney Opera House, making it perfectly located for your next city-side lunch or dinner.
