Masterchef Hayden Quinn + immunity challenger Alex Keene : Ormeggio

Apprentices No More, Master Chefs Step Up to the Plate

Celebrity Chef Alessandro Pavoni is inviting MasterChef fans and food lovers to join him at his hatted North Shore restaurant – Ormeggio at The Spit. The degustation dinner unites MasterChef contestant and former lifeguard Hayden Quinn, and his immunity challenger Ormeggio’s Alex Keene, in the kitchen to compete for the first time since they faced off earlier in the year on MasterChef.

The special dinner on Tuesday 20 September at 6.30pm, celebrates the two former apprentices becoming fully fledged chefs – Hayden graduating from the MasterChef kitchen and Alex recently finishing his Ormeggio apprenticeship. Pavoni, who has been a mentor to both, will oversee the preparation of the four course feast.

Guests will truly enjoy the contemporary tastes and aromas of this truly exciting culinary collaboration. For just $95 per person the Assaggini, Primi and Secondi courses are matched with Italian wines selected by Ormeggio’s talented sommelier Scott Benvau.

On arrival a glass of Italian Prosecco awaits, served with assaggini (appetisers) prepared by both young chefs. The menu flows seamlessly to Quinn’sPrimi (entree) – herb crusted Salmon crudo with watercress mayonnaise topped with crispy amaranth. Keene’s main of Braised lamb cheeks and hazelnut crumble served with sheep’s milk and pickled pear, reveals the metal of this newly made Chef.

Striking the final culinary blow, Pavoni delivers diners his legendary dolci (dessert) Egg on the nest. Even the most hardened foodies have been known to melt at just a taste of ’L’uovo nel nido’ – an exotic explosion of coconut and mango with luscious milk chocolate and fairy floss.

When Keene and Quinn last faced off in the MasterChef, Keene put up a riveting fight with a heart-stopping cook-off against Quinn. He fell short in satisfying the judge’s pallets – losing by just one point. Now good friends Keene and Quinn are thrilled at the opportunity to take over Ormeggio’s kitchen.

Together and once again under the watchful eye of mentor Pavoni, both are hoping to give food fans a real reason to watch their space.
