2011 Electrolux Appetite for Excellence finalists announced

Following intense scrutiny by a panel of Australia’s culinary heavyweights, some of the country’s most passionate young talent has been shortlisted as finalists in the Electrolux Appetite for Excellence Awards 2011 in three categories: Electrolux Young Chef, Electrolux Young Waiter and Electrolux Young Restaurateur. Now in its seventh year, the program is dedicated to ensuring the future success of the Australian hospitality industry by offering education, inspiration and networking opportunities to the next generation of culinary superstars.

The 2011 finalists will continue through the competition to be judged by an awe-inspiring panel of judges including Chris Taylor, Christine Manfield, Guy Grossi, Luke Mangan, Mark Best, Peter Doyle, Peter Gilmore, Philip Johnson and ultimately by Australia’s first multi-Michelin starred chef Shane Osborn from London’s Pied a Terre.

The young chef and waiter finalists will be competing for a coveted place on an all-expenses-paid produce tour along the QLD coast in early August provided by Dairy Australia; Fisheries Research & Development Corporation; Horticulture Australia Limited; Sugar Research & Development Corporation; and, Meat & Livestock Australia. With flights provided by new program partner Virgin Australia, the tour allows the finalists the opportunity to experience first-hand the amazing produce and meet the passionate producers behind the outstanding quality meat, seafood, fruit and vegetables enjoyed in the
country’s best restaurants.

The Virgin Australia partnership will provide flights for contestants travelling across Australia to participate in the programme and in the many activities hosted by the best-of-the-best of the Australian food industry.

In addition, every entrant has the opportunity to participate in a one day skills workshop later in the year with food educators and winemakers.

All participants will receive expert knowledge, guidance, further education and mentorship along the way as they compete for the ultimate prize of being named the 2011 Electrolux Young Chef, Electrolux Young Waiter and Electrolux Young Restaurateur with a truly amazing prize pool.

The Electrolux Young Chef and Electrolux Young Waiter prize package comprises of:

Sanpellegrino offers the Electrolux Young Chef National winner a once in a lifetime experience to represent Australia and compete in the famous S.Pellegrino Cooking Cup in Venice

This is followed by a visit to the source of two of the world’s most renowned mineral waters – S.Pellegrino located in the Italian Alps and Acqua Panna positioned in the hills of Tuscany, where both the Electrolux Young Chef and Young Waiter National Winners will experience the rich heritage, lifestyle and culture of each of the waters Return overseas flights courtesy of Virgin Australia and Etihad to attend this event and participation in two weeks work experience at a world leading restaurant $3,000 cash to assist with travel & overseas work experience expenses. The Electrolux Young Restaurateur prize package offers:

An unique opportunity from Sanpellegrino with an all-expenses-paid trip to London to attend“The S.Pellegrino Worlds 50 Best Restaurant Awards”

Return overseas flights courtesy of Virgin Australia and Etihad to attend the London event $8,000 cash to be invested in their business under the judges guidance.

Electrolux will provide the establishment of the winner with a selection of premium domestic kitchen appliances of their choice to the value of $5,000.
