Quay is the only one of the Australian restaurants named in San Pellegrino Worlds 50 Best Restaurants for 2011.
Last night in London, Quay was voted Number 26 on the coveted San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. The restaurant first broke onto the list in 2009 – joining such hallowed establishments as Noma, El Bulli, Fat Duck and The French Laundry – with a ranking of 46th. The San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is compiled by the World’s 50 Best Academy, a group of prominent food writers, critics, publishers and commentators, who each represent a different global region and chair a carefully selected voting panel for that region. Over 4,000 votes were cast by over 800 restaurant experts around the world in order to assemble the list.
For anyone who has met Executive Chef Peter Gilmore, they’ll know he is more than humble. Not only a talented chef, but also a passionate seed saver Peter Gilmore has a quiet drive for perfection that stems back to the purity and diversity of his ingredients, with the restaurant sourcing much of its fresh produce from its own farm. “We are completely thrilled. We can’t wait to get back and celebrate with the Quay team who are the reason that we’re here in London accepting this prize.” said Gilmore. John Fink, General Manager of the Fink Group, owners of Quay and Otto restaurants, added “Sydney has some of the best restaurants in the world, and hopefully, Quay’s win will encourage the world to visit us and enjoy them.”
