Chef Craig Mcindoe was in the kitchen today at MuMu Grill when I arrived for lunch. You might already know that MuMu Grill at Crows Nest is a strong supporter of Street Smart Australia but what you might not know is that MuMu Grill held a special lunch that flew under Sydney’s radar earlier this week. Street Smart Australia provides much needed assistance to the homeless. And, the affable and generous Mcindoe and his – sustainable – steakhouse put on a (no media allowed) lunch this week for street kids. Good one Craig! (sorry Craig the secret is out …)

Back to the restaurant, and back to sustainability. As the sign says “100% grassfed”. Today I was pleased to see amongst the menu additions Rob Lennon’s Gundooee Organic Wagyu (a favourite of mine for flavour and for the care of our planet ¬ farmer Rob has previously explained to me how his cattle are not just 100% fed grass, but are fed on the natural grasslands and not improved pasture).
“DID YOU KNOW GRASS FED BEEF HAS MORE OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS THAN FARMED SALMON ?”
We were two girls out for lunch. We didn’t choose steak and we did choose a cocktail to get us started. Then, we chose to share: small plates from the day’s menu additions – and of course because MuMu was Sydney’s first jamon bar - we had to add a plate of the Spanish ham. As I’m currently interested to learn more about the environmental (and flavour) benefits of kangaroo, I voted – my choice was to try MuMu’s Kangaroo Prosciutto.
WA Lobster, Cabbage, Mint, Parmesan and Asparagus Salad
Grape Tomato, Baby Basil and Buffalo Mozzarella Salad
Zucchini Flowers stuffed with Herbed Ricotta, Cabra
Jamon Serrano 18 month and Catalan Bread
Kangaroo Prosciutto with Manchego and House Made Bread

While we didn’t actually eat any cow on today’s surprise visit, I did take a stroll along the bar to check out the MuMu cow collection. Oh and as (some of you already know) I’m born in The Year of The Pig, I covet the fashionista pig (Chanel logo).

While we savoured our small plates, outside and inside there were others who indulged and revelled in the Grill specialty steaks. Wished I hadn’t had to run, I couldn’t have just stayed in the spirit of Catalan jamon and sunk in for a long lazy lunch and afternoon. Maybe next time?
