Travel Australia : Sculpture by the Sea

Today was the last day for this year 2010 of the Sculpture by the Sea exhibition in Sydney on the spectacular Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk. Sculpture by the Sea will return to Cottesloe Beach Perth from the 4 – 22 March, 2011.

Now international, Sculpture by the Sea, under the patronage of The Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Denmark, was also launched in June 2009 in association with the City of Aarhus and ARoS Denmark. You may know of the relationship and history of The Crown Princess as an Australian. So, Sculpture by the Sea, Aarhus – Denmark was inspired by Sculpture by the Sea Bondi.

The marvellous coastal walk, is a great free outing for locals and tourists alike at any time of year. During the exhibition each year the spectacular walk becomes even more spectacular as a giant sculpture park with over 100 sculptures by artists from Australia and across the world.

With the rain and cold finally lifting in Sydney this week bringing the start to summer sunshine, I made sure I didn’t miss this year’s sculptures. For me, the exhibition does just that each year, marks my start of summer. With views below to surf and surfers and to beaches to the north and south, for me the sculptures also herald the start of swimming, seasonal salads and the sounds of cicadas.
