Last week as part of the Live Local Challenge I spent the week limiting my food and beverage choices to food grown and raised within a 100 mile (160 km) radius of my home.
At first with no preparation for the challenge, I found it difficult to source food in Sydney that was totally from within that 100 mile radius. Then I was introduced to Eveleigh Farmers’ Market which has an abundant array of locally grown produce in the heart of the city, and provided the diversity of fresh local seasonal produce I enjoyed during the week. While there are some weekly stall holders, others change from week to week. On the day of our visit, there were at least four stalls with food totally grown from within the 100 miles of my home, and all the food sold at the market that day was grown from within the broader local region.
